LORING is responsible for
providing complete HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and life
safety systems design for a 40,000 square meter library building
incorporating bookstacks, reading rooms, cafeteria, gift shops and offices
surrounding a central multi-level atrium.
The building is served by its own central utility plant.
Furthermore, the building has a nearly all-glass facade with no
flat roof adding to the complexity of the mechanical systems design.
LORING
utilized
Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to design the
mechanical and electrical equipment rooms to coordinate
infrastructure in this unique structure. Additional special
MEP solutions include misting fire protection systems and
humidification systems for archival spaces.
The multi-functional facility will house over 1,200 reading
spaces and provide shelf space for the library's entire active
collection of 6 million units. Additional spaces include a 400
seat auditorium, a 4,000 square meter conference center,
exhibition galleries, an eight story grand atrium and a
two-story penthouse reception area.
