The Willow School
Gladstone, NJ
LORING provided complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing
and fire protection engineering design services for a new private school
that fosters the concept of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
The first phase included a 14,000 square feet primary
(K-6) school and the second phase included a 5,000 square feet Arts Barn.
LORING also provided master planning services for the campus with an
ultimate build-out of approximately 90,000 square feet.
The building design includes many sustainable features,
including storm water remediation systems, rainwater harvesting systems,
daylighting strategies, photovoltaic systems, natural ventilation
strategies, heat recovery and geothermal heat pump systems. The project
recently received its Gold Level LEED Certification and was referred to by
the New York Times as "the greenest building in New Jersey" (29
December 2004). Additional responsibilities included energy modeling for
mechanical systems selection and optimization.
